An Open Letter
Dear Readers,
My name is Shuyue JIA (Bruce), and I am currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Boston University, located in the vibrant city of Boston, Massachusetts, United States. My name in Mandarin Chinese is 贾舒越, pronounced as Shu-Yue Jia. Many of my friends and colleagues call me Bruce, a name inspired by two iconic figures: Bruce Wayne and Bruce Lee.
Throughout my academic journey, I have dedicated most of my time to my studies and research. From my freshman year in college to this very day, my lab has been a second home. While my academic pursuits are a significant part of my life, I have also cultivated a deep passion for activities that keep me grounded and inspired. Running marathons, playing soccer, and taking photographs are among my most cherished hobbies. Of these, photography holds a special place in my heart. To me, it’s more than a hobby. It’s a way to capture the fleeting, meaningful moments that make life fantastic. It’s a way to create a life I will always remember.
I believe in striving for excellence, not only in my technical skills but also in leadership. One of my guiding principles is captured in a phrase I coined: "Find the courage to beyond boundaries!" (Shuyue JIA, 2022). This mindset drives me in all aspects of my life, including photography. It’s also the reason I decided to create this photography platform. For me, the impact and quality of my work matter more than anything else, and these values continually inspire me to push the limits of what I can achieve.
Beyond my identity as a photographer, I am also an international marathon athlete with roots in Northeastern China, Hong Kong, and Boston. Persistence has always been my guiding force, whether I’m tackling the challenges of a marathon, delving into complex research problems, or navigating life’s hurdles. This resilience fuels my creativity and motivates me to share my unique perspective on life through my photography.
Thank you for taking the time to learn a bit about me. I hope my work resonates with you and brings a little more beauty and inspiration into your life. Let’s stay connected and continue to share these meaningful moments together.
Warm regards,
Shuyue JIA (Bruce)
